What is Popee the Performer?

Popee the Performer is a 3D animated Japanese cartoon/anime made in the year 2000 by Ryuji Masuda, the director, and Wakao Masuda, the artist. It's known for its almost surreal and insane feel and its memorable characters. Despite the show being for kids back then, it's dark humor would not be approved for kids now. Popee the Performer has 3 major characters: Popee, Kedamono and Papi who is introduced in season 2 (learn more about these characters below!!) There's no main plot besides circus people doing silly things.

Where can I watch it?

You can watch Popee the Performer on this channel as well as some of Ryuji Masuda's other cartoons! It's basically an archive of the creators works as well as things the channel creator made themself.

How did I get into PTP?

I got into the series through animation memes in 2019! Not actually watching the series while it was still airing lol. I then watched the series online.

CHARACTERS

Popee

Popee is the protagonist of the series, even if he is NOT a good guy.. He has a red and white striped outfit, a pink hat or whatever it's called with bunny ears, a blue bag and blonde bangs. Popee is pretty crazy and is easily angered and envious. In Wakako Masudas artworks he is seen having two pigtails instead of his hat as well as being named Hanabishi.

Papi

Papi (or Papie) is Popee's father and is introduced in season 2 and continues to be in the series until the end. Papi has a hat shaped as a sun, a yellow and orange onesie, a purple jester collar and a mustache. When he first appears he performs his first trick we see: he flips, then chainsaws himself in half and then appears in a chest.. What a crazy intro ToT. It also shows Popee is quite jealous of him. Papi is definetely more mature than the main cast due to him being a father.

Kedamono

He's a blue wolf that cover's his face with a white mask that changes expressions based on what he's feeling and is Popees sidekick!! Sadly, he usually suffers from Popees tricks (rip). Kedamono enjoys fried chicken and the tv channel: UFO girls!!! If you want to know what's under his mask I'm pretty sure it's just two black beads.. Fun fact!: Kedamono in Japanese basically means beast.
